About Strata
Strata is a registered charitable Montessori Adolescent School for
grades 7-9.
We are committed to the individual success of each student and to supporting the growth and development of child-centered learning in Canada. The school is governed by a board of directors made up of community members and parents. Two fully-trained, full-time, Montessori adolescent guides, one male and one female, are in the community at all times. A French second language specialist is an integral part of the community, performing French education and participating in a majority of the community’s activities. Numerous specialists also come into the community to guide the students in a wide variety of fields and subject areas.
A Message from the Director
“Establishing lasting peace is the work of education; all politics can do is keep us out of war.”
Strata makes a difference.
At Strata, we give young adults real learning opportunities by offering them meaningful challenges and authentic consequences. We embed high social, emotional, and academic expectations in a land-based experiential program that holds students accountable to each other and to themselves.
Not only will Strata continue to prepare our graduates for successful futures, our education team supports the integration of community based learning by sharing our resources, tools, experiences and expertise. It’s our goal to connect with community partners whom we can work with to build a living example of what is possible to build a scalable, authentic model that educates and inspires leaders in our community to join the growing education reform movement.
