The Lunch Program
Here at Strata, our students make their own lunches. Every day, three students are picked from a list to make lunch for that day and the people who made the lunch the day before have to clean the dining room. Being in the kitchen means that you make the snack and lunch and clean the kitchen after lunch. Cleaning the kitchen means that you do the dishes, mop the floor, and wipe the surfaces. Being in the kitchen is a great experience for the students of Strata.
The kitchen program is about teaching your child how to cook and how to clean after they're done. It's about trying new things that you have never done before and about eating new things.
From our Students:
“The kitchen program teaches the students how to make food from many different cultures, instead of microwave-able tiny pizzas.” — Gabe
“What I like about the kitchen program is that it gives us skills that we could use later in life.” — Hudson
“I like the kitchen because we do a lot of fun things and it feels nice to cook for the community.” — Beren
“I like that we get to have a responsibility and cook for the community and work with our peers.” — Ollie
From our Kitchen Manager, Maeve:
Being a kitchen manager means I help our kitchen guide, Jen, with all of the things in the kitchen. Every morning, I go into the kitchen and rinse the dishwasher to get it ready for the day. I order the vegetables on Thursdays, and I make sure that the menu is shared with our community each week. I have a kitchen manager binder with all the stuff I need in it to stay organized.
